Handi .357 barrel??
« on: February 21, 2005, 12:02:20 AM »
Can you shoot 38/Spec and 38/Spec + in the 357 barrel?  Always wanted a 357 revolver and thought it would be cool to have a long gun that shoots the same ammo.

Yes!  With 38 loads it feels like shooting a .22!

COOL !!  Thought it might be fun to plink with and then only have 1 ammo to worry about.  Cheaper "Plinkin' " with 38 cart.  Are there lots of different loads and slugs avail. in 357?

You Will Have so many options with a .357 Handi you won't know where to start, I have two with one reamed out to .357 Maximum. I really like useing cast bullets in and makeing them myself, Also you can use any .35 cal bullet so pointy bullets are an option, Most handis have a long throat which makes the .360 DW (Dan Wesson) useable The .360 has a little more case capacity than the .357mag but less than the max. Now with bullets, You have from light weight 90gr cast and jacketed to 250gr, Wadcutters to boat tailed spire pionts, and I'm getting velocitys from 700fps with cowboy loads up to 2700fps with some of the little jacketed bullets outta my max. Don't stop with the smaller bullets the 180s and 200 really shoot well.(took a real nice doe with cast 180gr this year)

You really outta get two .357s one to shoot .38/.357s out of and one reamed out to max. (you can shoot .38/.357s out of the max but it just don't work as well)

Can you guess that I like my .357 bore? Its my favorite rifle and I can reload for it for pennies a round, I would guess its about the cheapest center fire to load for. Factory loads are inexpensive  also. (Except the Max)

With four .357 revolvers and three .357 rifles I can burn up a lot of powder, and I can't think of a better round to do it with. 8)

The 38 specials are very fun to shoot out of a handi in .357.Mine seems to like 125 grain bullets the best.

I was in Franklin Sports in Athens this weekend and found FOUR limited edition laminated stock with medallion .357 handi-rifles!     I know the factory made 100 more barrels but I would think these would be pretty scarce!

Jason, if you can scare up the money to buy one of those .357's you will not regret it. They are a hoot to shoot!!! Very flexible regarding loadings, they will chamber and shoot .38 Specials, .357 Mag and .360 DW (Dan Wesson) as they come from the factory....<><....

I bought one in camo laminate from another GA store for $209 two weeks prior.  These were blonde/cinamon laminate and were $229 . . . (Franklin's is a little higher than Adventure Outdoors.)

Here's a .875" group shot with 125 gr .38 Specials at 100 yards.

You can see there is pretty good accuracy potential in the .357 Mag barrel.  My barrel is just like it came from the factory and it does shoot .360 DW's also.
