I'm thinking about getting one of these. Either the "Stainless PX9151L" (second from top) or the "Lightweight, Bi-Tone PX9104L" (third from top) What do you think?

Springfield makes a good 1911. In my opinion once you get into the $800 dollar range, Springfield begins to out price themselves. The same way with Kimber, for under $900 I feel Kimber is making the best 1911 on the market. Before I paid 800 for a Spring, Id pay 800 for a Kimber.

For those types of dollars you can come close to purchasing a STI Trojan or Ranger II which, in my opinion, is a higher quality gun than the other two brands mentioned.

I have a Champion. I am very happy with mine, even though like some also found the slide cocking serrations to have sharp edges. I just took the right size file to these edges and corrected this easily. It has right at 1000 rounds through it now. I have used 4 different types of self defense ammo from 4 different manufactures, and 3 different reloads I have done with 3 different bullets. I have not had a single failure of any kind, even when mixing all 7 different loads in a single mag. I get groups of 1.5" to 2" at 25 yards. I carry mine 24/7 with complete confidence. I also picked mine up for $602.00 before tax so got alot better deal than what the MSRP is listed at. I choose it since it has a 4" barrel for more discreet carry, but is mounted on a full size frame, this allows me to get any other slide I would like in the future, unlike some of the other more compact designs. I think Springfields 1911 are very well made guns. I love mine.

I do not own one, however; I have read nothing but good about these weapons. I visit over at the pistolsmith site and those boys that cutom weapons out like em fer a base, not better than colts, but they reccommend em.

I just bought the PX921l
Loaded ss adjustable target sights MRSP $1,080.
I sent it back today.Springfield said no problem they would take a look at it. Rough incosistent trigger pull and would not hold zero. Sighted in but getting too many flyers to be just the ammo. I was using remington's UMC
230 gr FMJ. Elevator screw on the rear sight too tight,maybe cross threaded.
After 125 round and off a sandbag I gave up and sent it back to get it looked over. They were nice people to talk to and I would not hesitate to order another Springfield Armory product. They all won't come off the assembly line perfect. Its just after spending $1,000 ,I expect a better product.

I own kimbers and a springfield(Tactical Combat Black Stainless Steel PX9154L). In my opinion my springfield shoots better than both of my kimbers. I am also probably the only person that would admit that.

You are not the only one, I sold my Kimber when I seen how well my Springfield shot. I have been telling people that for about 2 years now.

Just glad to see me and my shooting buddy were not the only ones. :-D

I am encouraged that your 1911 Springfield shoots so accurately.
I could not get mine to shoot any where close to the accuracy you claim.
I let two of our top 2700 shooters try it by shooting from a rest and they could not get it to shoot consisently or any where close that you would expect for a handgun costing over $1000. I sent the durn thing back and I do hope they can get it right this time.
They have a reputation for top customer service so I expect that it will be much improved when I get it back.

I have a SA PX9152X, had it for 6 months and have not had a problem yet. Accurate as can be and fits me just right. Picked it up new for $850 out the door.

I think it's like asking whether Chevrolet's are good cars. Springfield's product line is so broad and varied that you'd like some and probably not others. Kinda like asking whether S&W is any good. They vary from great to not too good. I'd look for info on models similar to the one you want, keeping in mind that there may not be much experience out there in your particular model because they change and get renamed so frequently.

The handgun I sent back was a Loaded 1911 stainless target model
with all the bells and whistles of the loaded models plus target sights.
This was a handgun that should hold zero and shoot all over the paper.

A freind of mine showed up at the range last week with a brand new Bruce Latham TGO-1. (He also drives a Hummer). Looked nice, was very tight, and was very accurate out of the box, but had a terrible trigger with about a mile of creep. Felt like the sear was covered with sandpaper. I'll stick with my Kimbers.

Shocking! he should take it back. My observation is that when contemplating one of the really expensive guns like the Leatham model, we should be buying from companies like Wilson and Les Baer instead. You get a top notch gun at a price that is actually reasonably priced considering the amount of hand labor that goes into it.

I agree with Questor 100%. When people consider spending a considerable amount of money on a gun Im not sure they realize how close they are to being able to purchase from master craftsmen.

Mine is a 9mm PX9134L. I love it, almost 1000 rounds and only 2 stovepipes. Very accurate. It is my first 1911 and I am very happy with it, no regrets

I`ve got a 1911A1 V16 Longslide 45 Super and I love it !!! I`ve had many 1911`s and this is my favorite!
