204 Barrel life?
« on: February 21, 2005, 03:40:29 PM »
Hi all,

just wondering if any of you have any info on how long the barrels are lasting in .204 Ruger?

The buzz by various reviewers is ~3500 rounds.

Are they faring better than a 22-250 for example?

My 22-250 goes shooting pds six or seven times a years and 400 rds. per....has for four straight years and who knows what it shot before I got it. I load it for volume shooting and thus it will run several times over the 3500 rd. count. I just got a .204 and expect the same from it.....even loaded up to the max that would equate to about 9-10 trips out not counting load development. Guess it comes down to how you use it.....

The 204 has great barrel life.  It actually has one of the best as far as a fast bullet is concerned.  It fairs much better than a 22-250 does.  Not to say that a 250 is bad, but the 204 uses about 10-12 grains less powder, and gets a lot of its speed from its efficient design.  Therefore with less powder, less barrel wear.  About the only thing any better is like a 22 hornet or something along those lines.
Accuracy doesn't come from the arrow, it comes from the Indian!
