Fiber Optic Front Sight for Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette?
« on: February 21, 2005, 05:19:20 PM »
Some of us  have been having discussions as to whether fiber optic front sights are now legal in NRA Sanctioned Lever Action Silhoutte matches.

It seems like some say yes, others say no, others don't know for sure.

We are looking for input from fellow lever action silhouette shooters.

Fiber Optic Front Sight for Cowboy Lever Ac

"Front sights must be a post or bead, may be hooded or if interchangeable may use post inserts only".

This is how the rule for front sight on a cowboy rifle used for shooting silhouettes reads.  It does not specify what materials should be used to make them.  I and some other shooters in my club have used the fiber optic front sights in the past with no complaints from any body.

In my case I did not think they offered any advantages over the use of others specially the ones with interchangeable inserts like the Lyman #17 which in my opinion are superior because they have a built in hood that is most helpful if you shoot at locations that do not have a covered firing line.

I would say use them until you hear different from NRA Sil Committee.
