30 Herrett and Nosler 125 gr BT bullet, Lone Star?
« on: February 23, 2005, 06:47:46 AM »
I've got a 30 herrett barrel that is throated extermely long and haven't been getting good accuracy from the Nosler 125 gr BT bullet.  Are these working well for other folks, and if so how far from the lands are you seating them?  The throat on my barrel is cut so long that I can drop a bullet into the barrel, then an empty case, and then close the action with no problems.  So it would be impossible for me to seat far enough out to touch the lands.
Thanks

my 14" factory 6tcu has a long throat. i can't get close to the lands in it either. i worried at first, but since put that away. it's one of the best shooters i've seen.
try seating approximately one caliber depth of bullet into the case. then adjust in .005-.010" increments each way. testing for groups at each increment.
trying different powders and powder charges could tune the load in with that bullet. if nuthin works after that, i'd try another bullet. it's hard to imagine something not working with that bullet though. all ya gotta do is find that load. sometimes easier said than done.

8) Karbo,
If all else fails, I suggest you try the Speer TNT bullet in .308 cal..  At handgun velocities, the Speer TNT bullets perform a lot like the Nosler Ballistic Tips on deer sized animals.  Regards.
