HELP!!! Trouble with my bran new Vaquero!
« on: February 23, 2005, 09:05:40 PM »
I just bought a Ruger Bird Head .45 Colt Vaquero. When I shot it today for the 1st time the "plunger"(for lack of a better word) the long rod part that holds the cylender in and slides out when you remove the cylender keeps coming out every time I fire a shot. It keep sliding out as soon as I shoot and I keep on having to push it in every shot. It won't stay locked in posistion!!! I can not pull it out with my finger unless I press in on that button on the side so it seem to be locking properly untill I shoot it and it pops out causing the gun to "jam" and not be able to rotate to the next round untill I push it in again. I pops out aprox 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch.

How do I fix it? Thank you very much!!!! :(  :D

You take it to a gunsmith.

Call Ruger.  Send it back.  They will make it right.

best thing you can do is order a belt moutain locking base pin. For the price of what it would cost you to send the gun to ruger you could have one. One more benifit other then locking in place is the fact that there better fit and tighten your gun up a little and can help accuracy.

I second the Belt Mountain base pin idea. I put them on both my Rugers and havent had another problem since.
The stock Ruger base pins are such a common problem it amazes me that Ruger hasnt fixed this by now.
Ruger could put the Belt mountain pins in instead, since they know how to build them right, charge $15 more for the gun and everyone would be happy.
