how long of barrel do you guys want? i would think a nice 24 or 26 inch barrel would be just the ticket on a 35 whelen handi rifle

Why not in the Ackley?  That would greatly improve brass life in a break-barrel rifle.  It would also decrease back-thrust on the receiver and reduce possible frame streching with hotter loads.  This might be the reason they stopped offering the Whelen in the first place.....just a guess.  But it stands to reason.....if they got a lot of them returned because of damage.....with the cost of these guns....it just was not worth it to manufacture them.

The whelen operates at 52,000cup, the 30-06 at 60,000psi in the same case. The .pdf file at the bottom has a chart showing the comparison of CUP and PSI in common calibers. The 30-06 show 60,000psi as 50,000cup.

Today and tomorrow would be a good day to e-mail them.  If enough people fired one off to them maybe they will get the message.

Being psychic, I emailed them two days ago about offering the .35 Whelen.  I also just emailed Grice's...  For those of you who don't know Grice's, they are a gun wholesaler/retailer in PA.  Last year they got a special run of .35 Whelens in the Remington 7600 and Remington 700.  They emailed me telling me they were still "kicking tires" on the '05 special editions...so I offered them my input on NEF. :-)

Just posted on gunbroker.com to see if we could get a few more bodies...

Don't feel badly mr.frosty, our dreams should exceed our grasp, otherwise we would have nothing to wish for.  Besides, thanks to the Montanan I have a nice .35 Whelen Ultra barrel....<><....

However, if anyone has a pipeline to the "Handi fairy" and could put in a good word for a .35 Remington I would be very grateful!!!

Robert,
I, for one, have never heard any of the whelen owners ever complain about their rifles...  Have you ever heard of any problems?  I would bet they would have more problems with the .45-70's from people trying to shoot Ruger #1 loads...

I got a reply from H+R/NEF. They said they were sorry, but the .35 Whelen was never a big seller. It doesn't sound promising, but the more E-mail traffic they get, the better the chances are of reviving it.

Well, I sent my email in, first thanking them for the great product that they provide and then asking them to consider the .35 Whelen or the .358 for a nice medium bore addition to the family.   It really would be nice to have one of them.   If they keep getting these emails, maybe at a minimum they would consider a run of a few hundred barrels.  It may not have been a hot seller before but that was probably in the very early stages of the Internet or at least before great forums like GBs.  Now that everyone can check the Net for feedback on guns/calibers instead of waiting for a Gun Rag to do a random write-up on such neat calibers, I am sure they would see increased sales.  Look at the .357 - written off by them but now back by popular demand.

I've got my fingers crossed......

Posted this in the wrong thread earlier. :x

Well, at least I got a reply from Customer Service.....

"WE TRIED THE 35 WHELEN OUNCE AND WE COULDN'T SELL THEM MAYBE SOMEDAY THEY WILL TRY THEM AGAIN WE WILL PASS THE INFO ON"

My note was slightly more professional. I'll give them credit for the quick response. I wuspect this needs to be a long, continued hum to get their attention.
