Bow Hunting Upland Birds

How is this possible? I watched a show once where they were doing this, and I don't think they got one bird. Why waste the arrows? I don't get it. I might be missing something tho... :D

I've never bowhunted specifically for upland game, but I've been in my treestand (deer hunting) and had some rooster pheasants walk by.  Never shot at any of them because I didn't want to risk ruining my deer hunt.  I could have killed quite a few pheasants this way.   So, maybe that's what they meant???

No, no. I mean actually flushing birds, then arrowing them. I watched a show where three guys tried it. Didn't look like something productive. More of a waste of time :?

Well for one thing all of the times I've seen it done was with traditional tackle. No compounds. Once you get to a certain level of skill it's not all that hard to progress to the next level. When I was a member of the Traditional Bowhunters of Fla. they used to have two yearly shoots. At one of them there would always be a bunch of guys shooting foam disks thrown into the air. If you use flu flu arrows they don't go as far and are easier to recover.
I one saw a video where Ben Perason went duck hunting with a recurve. Pretty impressive.

I've tried pheasants with a recurve. A ton of fun. Didn't kill any but would certainly do it again. A good bird dog would really be an asset. We did a game farm. I couldn't imagine doing it with wild birds. I would give it a try though. Good luck!!!!

I saw a show where they were using bows to shoot at flushed pheasant. They never got a bird, but it looked like fun. Also just saw a Tred Barta show where he was shooting at geese over decoys with a bow.
