Question On SBH Hunter Holster/Which One
« on: February 24, 2005, 12:55:27 PM »
I've got a .44 SBH Hunter and am searching for a holster.  The one on the Ruger website says fits SBH as do several others I have looked at.  If a holster says it fits a SBH 7 1/2" does that mean the Hunter model will fit too?  I called Ruger and the customer service person I talked to did not know and referred me to Galco and one other one and theirs just say SBH also.  I thought about getting one of these, but don't want to have to go through sending it back if it dosn't fit.  I am also looking for one that has the flap too or at least the leather snap strap like the one on the Ruger website.

Thanks

Yep any holster that will fit a 7.5 inch SBH will fit the hunter. There are about a bazillion holster makers that have these. Look in the Western/Hunting sections of those sites and you will find just what you are looking for. Priced are from around $20 to having to indenture your first born to pay for it price range.
Love those .41s'

AntlerDS ...

I received the Ruger holster made by Galco as a Christmas present for my SBH Hunter 7.5" .45 colt. I really like it as I think it is of fine quality and design.

As a matter of fact, anything I have ever ordered from the Ruger website, has been more than satisfactory.

I have a Super Blackhawk Hunter Bisley in 44mag and I ordered a Galco holster from the Ruger website and it fits fine.  The barrell takes up all the holster but the barrell is completely covered.  There is probably one eighth to one quarter inch more holster than barrell.  The holster is open at the muzzel.  I would buy it again.  Hope this helps.

Hey Big, Crawfish and Bounty.

Thanks for the information, that is just what I wanted to find out.  I have always been more interested in rifles, but these big bore handguns are really interesting and fun to shoot and read about.  I'm already trying to figure out how to justify a .41 and a .45 now.  Thanks again for the info and will probably have some more questions about shooting these, sighting in, care, loads, etc.

AntlerDS ...

Glad to be of some help to you. I don't want to get a .41 vs .44 vs .45 flame started but I have 3 Rugers in .45 colt and a Marlin CBC in .45 colt to shoot with them. You might consider at sometime in the future getting a lever action to match your handgun caliber as we have so much fun at the range with these. Everyone at the range wants to shoot the Marlin. I guess with my Vaqueros it proves maybe we all have a little "cowboy" in us.

The SBH Hunter was an addition I have wanted for some time. It will be going on my next boar hunt as the Marlin was used on the last trip.
