I'm trying to work some good loads for my 223 heavy barrel. I was hoping that someone had accurate loads using 40g hornady vmax and h335 and imr3031. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My heavy barrel handy loves 25.2 grains of H335 with a 40 gr Vmax. I can count on it to take prairie pups at 200 yds and beyond.

My 223 BBl likes 26.0 grains of H335 and a 55gr Sierra Blitz. Once took a yote with this load at 270 yds and 1/2" MOA 3 shot groups are common. I have noticed POI changes with environmental temp changes though. I am going to give 55gr Blitzking and some H322 a try. I hear extruded powder is more consistant than spherical when it comes to environmental changes. I am new to the reloading game.

What works for me and what works for you is not necessarily the same. Rifles are different and have different appetites.

Mine likes 50gr Nosler BT's with 26gr Varget. Accurate, explosive little bullets. May work up a little hotter loads once I get a chrony, but right now I've found a "sweet spot." I particularly like the Varget because it burns very clean.

I'm still in the esperimental stages, but so far I have got three shot clover leafs (only once ot twice, it was windy) with Varget, and BLC-2, 27 and 27.5 grains respectively.

My .223 NEF Handi loves most all 55gr bullets. My current load is 24.7 of BenchMark/CCI BR4's/AOL 2.300/Win brass/55gr Hornaday SP's. BenchMark is the only powder I now use. It is very clean and easy to meter. I love it.
