Quick Release scope mounts . . . which is best? Help!
« on: February 08, 2003, 07:25:14 PM »
I've been looking at several styles/manufactures trying to decide on which to get.  My top choices so far are the Maxima series, Leupold QR, and Leupold QRW (weaver style).  Does anyone out there have some experience with these set ups, good or bad.  I've heard for the most part that they all tend to return to zero once remounted pretty consistently.  I've just never owned a pair and would like some input.  Thanks for your help!

I use the Warne rings for quick detach.. I like the ability to adjust scope crosshairs by just losening top screws. Easy off and on.  The one set of Leupold I have left some ring makes, none with warne.

I have gone to Burris dual dovetail  with signiture rings on the larger calibers as it seems to be a stronger mounting system and self centering.

I have the Leupold QR on my muzzleloader barrel and they always return to within a 1/2" of zero.  Haven't tried the others but am planning on getting another set of the Leupold QR for my .308 so I can switch between a 32X scope for bench shooting and a 2-7x for hunting.

I don't have any on an Encore or Contender, but I have a set of the Leupold QRW's on my T/C Firehawk to be able to remove the scope while cleaning.  They work great and always near enough to zero that I don't notice a difference with this gun, but as S.U. said they can leave ring marks.  The top half of the Leupold QRW rings go more than a 180deg around the scope tube and kind of snap into place.

I had no trouble getting them on.  At one point I wanted to switch to a different scope on this gun and needed to get them off the old scope.  This is when I dented the scope tube.  I was not happy!!!  I still use them but don't plan to switch scopes again unless I absolutely have to.  I'm not sure if there is a trick to getting them off so that they don't dent the tube or not.

Good luck ... Crayfish
