Action opens when shot.

What do you think I should do in this case?

I have a 243 H&R Ultra that I bought new.  I have reworked the crown of the barrel, and the trigger on this gun and it shoots great.  I have a problem with the action coming open some times when fireing my reloads with this gun. The load that I am using is 70gr TNT with 41 gr of Varget with OAL 2.69"

I notice that there are two wear points on the barrel lug on the out side edges and no wear in the center of the lug.

lug:     |==________==|   , the == are the wear points on the barrel lug.

With all the work that I have done can I still send it back to the factory for a fix??

Is there any way I can fix it my self??

Comments and sugestions welcome.
Happy shooting, may you hit what you aim at.

The 2 wear points are normel. If you look at the underside of the barrel lug there is no contact area in the center of the lug....(....       ....).

In my case reloads were to blame.  Never had this problem with factory rounds.  Do you full length resize.  Finally got a redding comp full length sizing die.   NO problem since.

Off to barber shop for a clip job be back later.

This has been a common problem. Send it back, they will repair it, and you will never have the problem again unless you get some high pressures.

When I first started using my .243, I was firing Winchester factory ammo in it when I encountered this rather unnerving problem.

When I started tailoring handloads for it, I no longer experienced this problem. Frankly, I think the factory loads were a bit too hot.

I am also very careful about keeping the locking lug free of lubricants.
If at first you don't succeed, by all means try again. But if this doesn't work, give up, because there is no sense in making a darn fool of yourself.
