How is the best way to ship barrels only?

Never shipped barrels before, but I have shipped flyrods. :grin: What I would do is get a heavy cardboard tube. Plastic shopping bags make great padding to put in the tube. I have shipped rods this way with never a problem...

Go to the post office and get their triangular shaped box...also get some packing penuts and some bubble wrap...wrap the barrel really good with the bubble wrap...and I tape some cardboard over the scope rail and the muzzel end as well...put about 3-4 " worth of the penuts in the box after you put it together on one end...and place a piece of cardboard over that...put in the wrapped barrel and place more peanuts all around it...or some cardboard on each side to stablize it in the box...more peanuts...top it off with another piece of cardboard seal the last end...and tape the box securely...

If you don't wrap the sites or scoperail...they can come thru the sides of the box...same for the ends of the barrel if you don't have it in the box tightly...you don't want whoever your shipping to to wiind up with a damaged barrel.....

Just to give you an idea of the cost...from here in St.Louis...to ship to Washington State...with insurance and reciete notification...$14.75...it usually takes about 3 days this way...and it's a whole lot cheaper than UPS or FED-EX for me here...this is shipping priority mail...express is about $10.00 more...and that's their overnite service...

Mac is right on, the triangular boxes work the best, I've received several barrels in them, they work great, just be sure to pack it so the barrel can't bust thru the end. One way not to pack a barrel is in one of the round mailing tubes without enough packing inside. I received one with both ends knocked out and the barrel would slide out loose, was real surprised that UPS didn't repack it or seal it, it was delivered together and undamaged that I could see, but not sealed at all.

3" PVC pipe. Let's see them bust or bend that.

Pipe is cheap enough, but the caps are expensive so I improvise on those.
