Now I aint trying to get up a paint ball forum, however; that looks like fun.
I do not think I could take it with all that running, but it looks like the BB gun fights we had as kids, cept much safer.
Anybody got any info on the guns they use?

William, it is a blast but you are right about the running. I played with my son and my best friend with his sons a few years ago at a commercial paint ball field. They had several "capture the flag" matches with about 20 on each team in the woods along a creek and a free for all match (last man standing) that they called "speedball" and I actually won that one. My advice is try it.

I don't know much about the guns except that they start on the low end at around $75 to $100 and go to $300 on the high end easily. I used the rental gun at the paintball field (simi-auto) and it performed well without jamming. I think it was a Tippmann. Most manufacturers refer to their guns as "markers" in order to be politically correct in this screwed up society where everything is backward. :roll:

I'm thinking I would have need to build a fort and DEFEND the outpost.

To say that the "markers" can go as high as $300 is a bit of an understatement. There's a bunch of guys that play that stuff where I work. I know one of them has over $1500 in his "marker." His is full auto selective with a lazer sight.

Truth be told, "Marker" is the technically and historically accurate term to describe these "guns".

They were originally designed as an industry specific tool used by loggers and forestry service types to mark timber to be thinned and or harvested.

Dali Llama say that for same amount of dollar he could have rather nice customized 1911 style .45 ACP weapon that serve much more useful purpose in er, ah, "social" encounters of the negative variety. :-)

My nephew just got back from korea last fall. His friends wanted him to play paintball with them, he said it was silly. He finally agreed. He was an army scout in korea. He played, they lost, ALL of them. They didn't invite him to play anymore. POWDERMAN.

My Last Company Commander had a fund raiser and we bought 10 M4 paint ball guns (I forget the make, but we were tasked to get them. I really miss having that type of duty.) We used to go to a paintball range outside of Ft. Carson, CO and have a field problem of sorts. It was a blast. We ended up buying paint grenades and other accessories with our own money. Paint balling is fun as all get out. This place was set up with urban cities and all sorts of wooded areas. We got to practice MOUT and field problems in this environment. Give it a try, I think you will enjoy it.

The original use of said markers as FWiedner informs us was that of the lumber industry and soon after adopted by the livestock industry to mark livestock for separation. The first guns were either single shot bolt action or bolt action with a gravity feed tube that held 8 or 10 balls at a time and were powered by the small O2 cartridges such as used by some BB guns. Even though the first guns weren't semi auto or full auto some models could be modified to unbelievable accuracy and range.

There is a place in this "sport" for everybody. Used to play with a guy who was committed to a wheelchair. We would help him to get to an unsuspecting position and hide him under leaves and mud or poke him inside a hollow log. Due to his shooting ability he seldom got hit.

Haven't played in a long time but it sure is fun for everybody and a lot safer than the urban version.

My son is a Paintball-a-holic. Personally, I can't see spending all that cash on a gun that is basically a toy. My son could have bought an NEF rifle with three barrels and the finest scope for all the ger is has in the Paintball gun, and gear.
I detest anything that has the word paint in it. As a builder the biggest single problem I deal with is painting sub-contractors. AHHHHHH!

that was interesting, though it brought up as many questions as it answered. This seems to be a very addictive, and costly, little sport.
I would agree with your original post ,in that I would prefer a real weapon to a paintball marker, for the money required.

Tried it once and liked it. It was really enjoyable but reminded me of my age. Those little yard apes ran circles around me spraying at will. I done well with center mass shots but those "kids" 1/3 my age shot at anything even a boot or hand. Dang whippersnappers.

Dali Llama say williamlayton be welcome. :-) Dali comment that despite origin described so well by FWiedner, Dali find paintballers' usage of word "marker" instead of "gun" a bit too politically correct for his personal tastes.
