forend mounting?????
« on: February 26, 2005, 10:34:55 AM »
The only experience I have with the Encore is with a 209x50. I put a Boyds laminated stock set on it, free floated it and everything is great.

I just got a pair of  laminated forends from E.A. Brown for the heavy and standard rifle barrels. I was a little puzzled when I looked them over. Are the Encore rifle barrels just threaded or do they have some sort of standoff like the muzzleloader barrel?

As you can tell I haven't even looked at a centerfire barrel yet. I bought the forends planning on a 223 heavy barrel this spring and another tapered rifle barrel down the line.

Floating the barrel on the muzzleloader was a piece of cake with the standoffs for the ramrod. The rifle forends look to be a bit more challenging. The screws that came with the forends seem to be pretty short. Should I sand the barrel channel out? Use washers? Do I need longer screws?  These are a few questions I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think you can get away with the screws that came with the forend.  :-)

There are no standoffs on a regular rifle barrel!
The bottom of the barrel is drilled and tapped!

The muzzle loader has the standoffs to aid in storing the ramrod!
Also, you'll notice that the screws are different size!

Some of the shooters here do what's called pillar bedding!  I don't really know much about it, but I'm sure someone will jump in and explain it in detail!
