........In that mid level type scope there are more differences in individual scopes than the series and if I were to pick one for the best chance of a good scope ...I would go with the Leupold Vari XII.......or the new version VXII.....the ones I have had have been very reliable and IF there is a problem,Leupold is very helpful.......I still have a old steel K series Weaver that is still clean and super solid but I have had many Leupolds and still have a majority of guns with Leupold glass with the oldest scope from the early 80's......good luck and good shooting!!

To answer your question IMHO the VX2 is the best. Price wise since Leupold has raised the price of the VX2 line for the 1x4,2x7 & 3x9 to $299 I'd get a Nikon Monarch and save money and get what I consider a superior scope.

I would go with the Leupold VXII.  :D

I on the other hand would recommend an Elite 3200 which is better than either of the scopes you asked about and costs about the same or less.

I agree on the 3200, but I have the Vari X II in hand-paid $125-and was thinking I could sell it for about $50 more than I paid for on e-bay and then trade in my old Weaver steel tube on a new Weaver V series and pay arounf $80 giving me a quality scope and a little more cash in my pocket. I don't know I want to go through all that trouble though so I might just go ahead and trade in the Weaver for another Weaver and save that scope for the next rifle-a good excuse to buy a new rifle!!!

Thanks for the relplies

Leupold VX-II is 1 ounce lighter, a bit shorter, has better light transmission than the 3200, and is made in the USA, and built like a Mack Truck! Also the 3200 has glue-on turret housings. In the end you get what you pay for.
