What kind of AR-15 do you have and what have you done to it?
« on: February 27, 2005, 09:29:41 AM »
I have a Rock River Arm's "AR-15 A2 Tasc Rifle" Mine is the same one on the link except it has the "mid-length" handguard and is a "POST-BAN" model, I bought it brand new in Oct. 2003.  http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR1215X&storeid=1&image=nbrtasc.gif&CFID=7615733&CFTOKEN=91368316&jsessionid=c03095e9eb01$3A$5F$D

I am going to replace the "A2" upper receiver assembly with RRA's new "UTE2" upper receiver assembly! I'm doing this so I can mount an EOTech HOLOsight, model 512. With this setup I can also use my iron sights with the EOTech sight mounted in place.

"UTE2" upper receiver (second from the bottom)

I'm going to get RRA's "Winter Trigger Guard"
http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR0091W&storeid=1&image=wtg.gif&CFID=7615733&CFTOKEN=91368316&jsessionid=c03095e9eb01$3A$5F$D

I'm thinking about going with the "Quad Rail Aluminum Free Float" handguard so I can mount a light or some other accessories. http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR0010G&storeid=1&image=hgrdqd.gif&CFID=7615733&CFTOKEN=91368316&jsessionid=c03095e9eb01$3A$5F$D

I have a Colt SP-1 Carbine. Only thing I have done to it is mount the factory supplied scope. Everyone tells me to keep it original, I guess I will.

Here's a pic of a shorty I use to own. Had replaced the collapsible stock with a full one. Was trying out a new flash suppressor, ended up putting the factory one back on. This one and some others got stolen in 1981.

Ole Spike would've got a whipping indeed...if he'd been around and let that happen.  :-)  Had gotten a cash offer on him I couldn't refuse, so I sold him.  :-)  Not to my suspects either. It still grieves me when I see the pre-ban Colts and what they're going for these days. Something that aroused my curiosity a couple months ago, got a call from the Sheriffs Dept. wondering if I'd ever recovered them? Thought that real odd because it's been 25yrs. ago. I ask what was up, said they were updating files. Doesn't sound right at all to me.

My first AR, I've only had it for a couple weeks now. The lower is a Eagle
Arms and the rest is the basic 16 inch car kit from J and T dist.
So far all I've done is put a sling on it and shoot it some.
Was going to post a pic but it didnt work.

I have a 16-inch carbine, a Model 1 Sales kit built on an Oly Arms forged receiver with a standard A2 stock. The barrel is "post-ban" (i.e. without the bayonet lug or flash suppressor) and I like it fine that way. The only mods I've made is to install anti-walk trigger pins and to replace the CAR short handguard with a Bushmaster M4-style oval handguard. The larger handguard and beefier heat shield protect my hand from a hot barrel much better. I'm thinking now of installing a short Picatinny rail on the handguard for an M3 light. Can anyone recommend a good one?

I have a Rock River 16" carbine.  Only thing I have done is add an EOTech, and change the A2 flash hider to a Phantom.  I'm currently building an AR.  The lower is complete.  Stag lower, Cav Arms 6 position collapsible stock and an ergo grip in coyote brown, RRA two stage trigger.  The upper is rock river.  I'm having a barrel made from a Douglas blank in 6X45mm.  It's still in the works, so I'm collecting the rest of the parts while I wait.  YHM lightweight 4 rail free float forearm, Leupold MK4 3X9 scope, GG&G extended scope mount, YHM bipod adapter.  Haven't bought the bolt/carrier group or gas block yet.  Hoping to have the barrel and everything else here by mid April to complete the build.

I have an original AR-15A2 Colt Standard Model pre-ban from when they first came out. Thing just keeps on shooting and has never seen a gunsmith in all these years. Never did any modifications to it.

I've got a new Del-Ton upper on my Oly Match lower, and this thing SHOOTS.   I just scoped it and am heading to the range tomorrow to test loads, but once I settle on a load the scope is coming off.  It's a standard A-2 upper right now, I may put a 6-pos collapsible on it, but I really like it the way it is right now.  There will be a flashlight and a verticle grip added later, but that all the toys it's getting.  Now next year, when I build my M-4, watch out!

Thanks.  The 6X45 is showing promise.  Easily stays inside an inch at 100 yards.  Still working on loads.  This is a group shot at 180 yards (thats as far as we can get at our local club) with 80 grain Nosler ballistic tips and H335.  Have been able to do a little better than that a couple of times.  I'm going to play with the charge and see if I can tighten it up a little.

I will probably be updating my "what I've done to it list". Now I'm thinking about a new gas block, a titanium firing pin, Olympic Arms pneumatic recoil buffer, and a winter trigger guard like New York Hunter has. Also, I'd like some input on the titanium firing pin and Olympic Arms pneumatic recoil buffer. Are they worth it or are they just crap?

I used to have a Bushy xm15 shorty, sold it a while ago played with a ak for a while and am glad to say that the AK got traded and I now have a  bushy xm15 again ( I guess my time in the Marines makes me feel more confident with a ar over a ak) haven't shot it yet. Nothing to right home about just a standard A2 20" with a heavy barrel. I'd like to set it up about the same way patm41 is set up with a a3 upper and a picanny gas block.

update

I wanted a slightly more compact scope so I switched scopes. I put a NcStar 3-9X42mm AR scope on my rifle. I also installed a Precision Reflex military big latch, a titanium firing pin (my old man had two just laying around), a Rock River Arms winter trigger guard, a Endine hydraulic recoil buffer, and a FAB collapsible stock, after they sent me the right size. So I'm finally done customizing my rifle and hope to have a picture of it uploaded onto my computer within a month. Now I just need to buy a digital camera.

Yet another update

Just days after I installed the titanium firing pin, someone on another gun forum informs me that titaniums tend to pierce primers. So I have taken it out and installed the original. They also informed me that Accu-wedges work but you can use an earplug for a fraction of the price, though it might seem/look a little tacky.

Decided to go with the Magpul trigger guard, and bought an Ergo grip, though haven't put it on yet. I will use the one that feels best, and haven't installed the military big-latch yet.

Well I'm going to be selling mine soon through BullsEye Shooter Supply in Tacoma, WA. We agreed to list it at $1,300. I am ticked off a little cause I spent $1,500 total, and have only put 300-400rds through it.
