Hi:

Does anyone have a Browning lever action .22 rifle? Are they good quality? How is the grade 2 version of the rifle?

Only complaint I ever heard is some folks do not like the short lever throw. They are made well but I never shot one so cannot tell you how accurate they are.

My personal favorite among the lever action 22s I've shot. I particularly like the trigger traveling with the lever. No chance of getting your finger pinched on closing the lever no matter how fast you operate the lever.

Only difference in grades is the checkering.

Yea GB I was going to mention that about the trigger and did not because I thought these guns did that but was not exactly sure. I also have heard some like that and some do not. All I can say it is a Browning and they make good guns. Just depends on if you like the lever set up or not. I would guess once you got used to it, it would be fast as you say and a nice 22. Jim

I've had a BL-22 grade 2 for a few years now, and I absolutely love it. It's fast, accurate, and very fun.

I think the BL-22 is one of the three great .22 lever action rifles, the others being the Winchester 9422 and the Marlin 39.

The Browning is the lightest of the three and has the thinnest barrel. They are a good reliable gun and they have the additional advantage and disadvantage of the short lever throw.

The advantage is that this is the quickest-firing lever action around. Just flick your fingers and you're ready to go.

The disadvantage is primarily for smaller or weaker shooters, in that the reduced lever throw also means reduced leverage to extract the fired case and cock the rifle. They're a little harder to work than the others.

Most people who get a BL-22 are very happy with their purchase. If you like the way the rifle feels, and like the way the action feels when you have the rifle to your shoulder and are dry-firing it, then you will no doubt be happy too.

My personal ranking: the 9422 followed closely by the BL-22 then the Marlin.

The BL22 is a unique design, and a good one. I've always liked the traditional lever guns better. Consequently, I have a 9422 and a Marlin 39M, and my stepson has a Marlin 39A and a BL22. The BL22 he has is not as good a shooter as the Marlins or the Winchester, but we've had BL22's in the past that were real tack drivers. If you like the gun, it's a fine rifle, just not my cup of tea.

I'd have to say, that if I was advising someone on their first lever .22 purchase, I'd have to recommend a 9422. They are consistently good guns, and seem to all shoot well. Even though I love the Marlins, and shoot them more, I feel the Winchester is a very fine rifle.

I hated my bl 22 until I found eley high velocity ammo.When I first got mine It wouldn't group anything that I shot ,then I found eley and its been a dream ever since.
