Early Toppers w/30-30 & 357 barrels??
« on: February 27, 2005, 10:19:01 AM »
Quick was tellin' me he had heard of Toppers coming with 30-30 barrels and also about his 357.  What do you guys know about this.  Can it be done.  I mean, I know the factory won't, but some of you guys have switch a lot of things back and forth and know about this stuff.  All I know is that the frame on my new gun is the same as the one I had years ago.  Is the Topper frame the same as the Pardner frames.
Opinions, comments, thoughts, likes,  dislikes and all others welcome too.

my old topper youth came with a short 20g and a 30-30 barrel that was drilled and tapped. killed my first deer with it 30 some odd years ago, a real fine gun.

My dad has one of these Toppers. Topper 158 if I remember correctly. His also came with a 30/30 and 20 ga. barrels. Nice little gun. My dad has also bought a new Huntsman last year, and his reciever on the old Topper 158 is not the same as on the Huntsman. His barrels will not inter-change.

OK here it is.
Are the NEW Pardner frames strong enough to support shooting with a 30-30.  Yes, SB1 frame with a 30-30 barrel.

:D I seen one of those toppers in 12 gauge used at the sports shop today.....The receiver had a rainbow effect....It has blond colored stock and forarm....looker like an older model 158 or 58 something like that on the tag.....What is it worth anymore than anyother nef 12 gauge in good used condition......It was priced at $69....thanks Dale

I could go to Gander Mountain and pick one up for $10 more, right now.  The one I saw 2nd hand was made before 1987 and NEF won't do the barrel or anything for it.  It was priced at $99 and was a 20ga Youth model.  It sounds like the one you saw was probably a plain Pardner 12ga.  You would have to contact NEF to get the info on who to contact about the exact age and stuff.  Good Luck!

Early Toppers w/30-30 & 357 barrels??

Several years back i had a handy gun combo, blue finish, that came with a 30-30 barrel & a 26" modified choke 20 gauge barrel. Had it for a while, them let a buddy talk me out of it.

Last year i found a similar model, a H&R Model 258 "handy gun II" all done up in satin nickel, with the same 2 barrels in nickel. Even came in the original padded carrying case that hold the frame & both barrels .. still have that one, i bought it for my son, who will begin using it soon.
Anybody know what these nickel finished combos are going for with the case & both barrels? i would like to find another barrel or 2 maybe if these are still available...
