Handi mounts & mounting scope
« on: February 27, 2005, 11:43:17 AM »
With great anticipation I await delivery of my stainless Handi. I'm also waiting for delivery of a 6X16X44 scope for it. I went with a 44mm because I want it mounted low and a 50 mm could not be set as low as the 44mm, especially with the bull barrel.
This leaves me with a couple questions.
Weaver type bases... correct? I assume they are aluminium.. ?
How do I figure out the hight of rings I need without iy being any higher then nesessary. Is there a formula of some sort?

Any ring recomendations.
I'm tempted to go with a steel base and rings right off the bat! :?

For the most part, a 50mm objective on a Handi isn't an issue, the interference will be with the hammer at the power ring or ocular bell, not the objective. The scopes on the rifles below are both 50mm, the top one is mounted in medium(.270" tall) rings and has clearance at both ends, although the hammer spur extension needs to be used. The bottom scope is mounted in high(.420 tall) rings. Measurements are from the top of the rail to the bottom of the scope tube. Use the chart at Midway to determine ring height, but keep in mind the hammer issue.

I recommend Burris Signature Zee rings, medium or high depending on the size of the power ring/ocular bell will work great, no need to lap rings and they won't leave ring marks or damage the scope due to misalignment issues. The Optic Zone has a great price on them normally, but Midway has em on sale right now.

I did'nt realize the hammer had such a sweep to it. I have the Encore hammer in my head.

Is that lower rifle topped with a Mueller scope?
I was considering one, but was not sure about the reticle on the 4x16 and did'nt want the 8.5x25.
If so how do you like it?

The base you can order directly from NEF and it comes with the hammer spur you're going to need.   http://www.hr1871.com/store/index.htm

It's an Eraticator, 8.5-25x50IGR, great scope! I also have the 4-16x50IGR and 3-10x44IGR Sport Dots and the 2-7x32IGR Multi-shot. I love Mueller scopes  , it's real hard to buy comparable optics for the same money.
