How difficult is it to instal a spring kit in a 686? Do you have to do much dismantling of the gun to do this job? Can a novice do it?

Hi K,

Not a problem.  Take your time.  You can buy a Wolffe tune up kit for your 686.  Just make sure you still have positive ignition so that primers go off everytime.  Sometimes you can install a spring that make the trigger pull feel great and then you find the firing pin blow is too light and the gun may not fire every time.

GL,

Doug

Can you tell me a little bit about how much disassembly there is? Do you have to punch pins out and open it up or what?

Thanks

Mike

KF9VH,

The best way (IMO) for you to do this is with a Jerry Miculek dvd/vidieo about tuning your smith/wesson.  This tells all and will help you do a confident job.  You will not need to drive any pins.

As far as the springs here is a source: http://www.gunsprings.com/Revolver/SmithWesson_RvNF.html#S&WKLN
I recommend the shooters pack which is a mainspring and three different rebound springs of different strength.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOU MUST CONSIDER THE USE OF THE WEOPON...IS IT FOR PROTECTION?  IF SO THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!   HAVE WORK DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL (if any is really needed).  IF THIS IS A TARGET/PLINKING GUN?...HAVE A GOOD TIME.
