Help with Leman Green River Rifle
« on: February 09, 2003, 06:52:00 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some info on a Green River Leman Trade Rifle. I was at an NRA show in Dallas in 96, and was told that a Dr. White was the one who was involved in its creation. I found him there at the Whites in-line systems. I asked him about the history of the rifle but got about 2 oz. of info. We talked for about 20 min. and very few questions answered. He didn't seem to want to give up any info, but he asked me 4-5 if I wanted to sell it... I asked him what they are worth and him wouldn't even tell me if they were worth a dollar or a million dollars. Not to friendly of a guy... My rifle is all  original, I'd say 85-90 % with a serial No. in the very, very low 600s. It has a single trigger and a maple stock in 50 cal.
I've  tryed the internet and got the austailian site. I understand mine is made in Utah.Any info would be appreciated. thanks for any help i can get.          Bud :D

Bud Those Green River Leman rifles are true POS, but being as how I'm such a decent sort, I'd be willing to buy it for a modest $, and save you the hummiliation of being seen shooting it
All kidding aside those are beautiful rifles, as far as value you could keep an eye on sites like auction arms, as they do show up on occaison,
I can tell you it's not some really valuable collectors item, but they are a
fine rifle, one I'd be quite happy to own, I had a couple of crazy hippie friends back in the 70's, they owned a really cool BP shop in St. Charles Ill. (The Powder Keg)it was in a Ghetto type neighborhood, but they never got broken into because the Yo's would literaly cross the street to avoid us as we all had long hair and beards, rode Harley's and would be out front throwing tomahawks and such they doubless thought we were insane.
At any rate those guys looked down their noses at most production BP rifles as they built really beautiful trade guns, rifles and fowlers, they thought just about any factory rifle was garbage, but they did sell Green River rifles, I had my eye on one of the Leman's but never had the money and I regret not buying it to this day, at any rate t'were I you I'd work up some good loads (with real BP) and start shooting and enjoying that rifle, they're very fine shooters.

Thanks for the help Fred, much appreciated. I bought it in 84 and have run quite a few through it over the years. Your sure right about the accuracy of these shooters, mine is extremly accurate. I shot it off a bench at 50 yrds. (not that far) 17 rounds and all 17 rounds were touching each other in a  1 1/2'' group with original open sights. Hey you guys were better than a gun safe the way it sounds, and didn't have to pay an alarm company for their services. I'll bet their still talking about those crazy's that ran the gun shop down the street...      Thanks again Fred take care.
