cheap 22 rimfire ammo

hello -

i bought a brick of federal champions earlier in the month at gander mountain for 9 bucks and change - that was hard to pass up. i like to keep a brick or two of cheap bullets around for when sons, nephews, and nieces come over to shoot.

they shoot good with iron sights, but i noticed that most of the bullets are loose. you can spin or wiggle the bullets in their shell.

for nine bucks, i can't complain, but did any of you rimfire enthusiasts notice this and determine if there is any effect on accuracy, velocity, etc . ??

Try the Winchester bulk pack .22lr from Walmart  Its actually pretty good stuff at a reasonable price.  I go through a lot of it for Handgun because it groups as well as the more expensive stuff.

I've noticed the loose bullets in a lot of the cheaper stuff. For plinking, I've never noticed a difference in accuracy. I've heard of others who have compared the loose against the rest from a bench, and they do claim there's a difference in accuracy. But these are the same people who separate their ammo according to weight, rim thickness, and neck crimp. For $9-a-brick ammo, it's a non-issue.

For plinking I don't think you will see much difference in it. Federal, Remington, and Winchester all make bulk-pac ammo and in my 22 the Remington shoots the best. I have heard of people having a lot of ftf rounds but so far all the bulk pack ammo has went boom when it was supposed too. :D

Curiously, I don't usually use the bargain basement stuff...but I bought 2 50-round boxes at Wally World the other day at .98 cents per box.

    They were federal champions in the blue box.
 
     I was pleasantly surprised by their function and accuracy. When you mentioned "spinners" I checked the half box I have left...no  spinners..

    I wonder if the bulk packs are a notch below the 50 pk Champions in the quality-control dept ?

  The Champions I bought are probably the old CCI blazers....

the remington golden bullets are pretty good.i use them for woodchuck hunting and plinking.iv gave many woodchucks a "splitting" headach at 75yards or better with my marlin 25n!

All you can do is shoot it and see. I can tell you that with an accurate rifle off the bench. you will see big differences in accuracy. Some brands and some lots will give groups two and three times the size of others. Problem is that the results can switch when you switch rifles. Results can switch when you have to change lots, too.

The cheapest I have found is at Cabelas. They usually have Winchester Wildcat for $7.99 brick. That is about the cheapest I've seen anywhere in the last few years. I do live in the midwest so don't know if Cabelas is an option for you. I have a 2 hour drive to the closet Cabelas and a 4 1/2 hour drive to the one in Kansas City. Which every time I go visit my parents and/or go to hunt with my uncle I stop there on the the way down or coming back.

we've had a lot of PMC 22's on sale around here lately 7.99 a brick so i loaded up on them , well they aint to great stuff ill tell ya ,,pop pop  puff
is how it goes, very inconsisitant and by the time u shoot up a couple of hundred  what ever ur usein is DIRTY !!!!! wow pure crud from these , if yur lookin for cheap these are it if ur lookin for a good round?? well u might want to spend a few more bucks

Over the years I have noticed on many occasions that 22 rimfire cartridges can have "spinners" as you explain. Never have seem it cause a problem though.
