22 K-Hornet and 221 Fireball

I was looking hard at a contender carbine in 221 Fireball it was 95% but could only get down to $595 so I left  it set and ordered the Handi I wanted instead.
Anyhow, I like a short - med range varminter. quiet gun that is centerfire. I'm not concerned about the platform it's launched from just yet. I'm wondering where or from whom I could find info on the 221 fire ball compared to the K-Hornet. I understand the case life and fire forming of the K-Hornet is an issue. Any 221 fans? I could only find ballistice for a 10" Contender barrel.

:?  While I do not have the fireball info you ask for I can tell you that the fireforming and caselife issue's with the k-hornet are a load of crap from people who must not know what they are talking about.  Simply put it is so hard to fireform k-hornet that you have to go buy a factory loaded hornet round, chamber it, and actually fire it, oh and then you are done, not that hard afterall.  Anyway I have had good luck with caselife as well as using my k-hornet contender to take a few yotes.

What is the average # of times you reload the case after the initial fireforming? 3-4 times would be fine with me.
Also, when you form them is accuracy lost?

I would guess the K-Hornet would be very close to the Fireball.

people rechamber to k hornet because it will give them better accuracy than the standard 22 hornet in most cases

the 221 fireball is a great calliber.its close to the 223 as far as fps and can give very good accuracy.the 221 fireball wins hands down between the two.if you have a choice between the two go with a fireball.

Yes the .221 fireball is faster and a great cartridge that I will own one day but the k-hornet will be quieter in a carbine type gun.  Also in long run you will spend less in powder compared to the fireball.  As for reloading my only problem was crushing a few of the cases when I was starting out but other than that I have loaded most of mine up 7 or 8 times and only lost a few.
 
Kind of weird here I am preaching about the k-hornet while planning on getting a fireball barrel over the summer :grin: .  Oh well both are great but the k-hornet wins if sound and cost are issue's.

Does anyone know how to go about re-chambering or having someone rechamber a .22 Hornet Handi barrel to .22 K Hornet?  Any idea of cost for a job like that?

Someone had mentioned to me about the possibility of using a rented reamer to do the job myself.  Where does one find rental tools for gunsmith work? :?
