hevi-shot is better, but i doubt that the shot itself is going to make or break your goose hunt.
Geese are big and very tough, but when you're shooting working geese you can kill them with normal steel loads. Pretend the head of a goose is your only target when they're close enough and you'll do fine. When pass shooting use nothing smaller than 1s and I prefer BBBs. You can kill them at reasonable ranges with 3" 12ga shells but I use a 3 1/2" 10ga.
Way too many people on this site and others put too much stock in shot and choke selections. Learn to call and work waterfowl and you will have spent your time much more wisely than you would worrying about patterns and shot density.
