Author Topic: Weak hammer spring need help (Read 388 times)

Recently went out to the range & was shooting a few of my handi's when one started to miss fire, 1 out 0f 3 rounds were not busting the primers. the indent was not as pronounced as my other frames. This frame has a wonderful trigger & was bought used so I wonder if the hammer spring was weakened?? I was going to order one from wolf & they have 2 single & double coil http://www.gunsprings.com/1ndex.html I am confused which do I need. Also does anyone have a sigmatic (sp?) as to how to replace this.

Any help or ideas will be appreciated I haven't been into these frames yet all mine have good triggers except the one I sent in for a 357 & asked them to lighten it up Thanks[/url]

Thanks Quick I knew someone would have some info great sight for it. I think it is the hammer spring only thing that gives power to the hammer or it is all gummed up, I'll get a spring just in case then take her apart.
Sound good ? any other problems it may be? I'm betting on the spring

The transfer bar is what transmits the strike of the hammer to the firing pin, if it is gummed up or "out of tune" I think it could cause the same issue. It seems to happen a lot on the Sportsters and several have been sent back to H&R for "tuning".....the only other thing that I can think of is you're not fully pulling the trigger all the way to the rear as the trigger breaks, no follow thru with trigger pull can cause light strikes and inconsistent accuracy or at worst, failure to fire. I'd spray the heck out of it with cleaner if you don't want to tear it apart and pay attention to your trigger pull and see if that helps.

I watched my pull at the range & made sure that it was all the way back I try the spraying thing but I am going to go ahead & order a spring, How do you know if the transferbar is out of tune?? any hints to look for. I don't get all that much time at the range & I would hate to go through this again very frustrating :evil: at the least. I have others that perform flawless ly. This particular receiver my 1st has had a large # of rounds through it prob in the thousands but that should not matter. Hopefully it will get resolved by my next range session. Thanks again
