SSK does a great job again!
« on: March 02, 2005, 03:17:06 AM »
I had to let you guys know how well SSK's service was again.  I sent two 35 Rem Contender barrels off two weeks ago Tuesday, and when I got home yesterday, they were waiting on me.  Rechambered to 358 JDJ and two holes drilled and tapped for a 6 hole mount, with a new set of Hornady dies.  I'll let you guys know how well they shoot after this weekend.

Are your barrels ported? i have a 14" matte bull .35 Rem from the custom shop i bought from a guy that was unfired, and already mounted with the full lnegth vent rib / TSOB mounts. looks very cool. i am thinking about having it converted, i already have dies & have owned a few .358 JDJ's but all have had brakes.

i wont shoot this one alot, and am wondering how the recoil will be without the brake. Other than site-in it wont get shot off the bench.  i am not especially recoil conscious, and have pachmayrs/scopes etc on my guns so they are heavy which helps a bit.

One ported, one not

One of the barrels I sent off had a factory port, the other had none.  The one without the port is my father-in-law's barrel.  He shot it yesterday and even without the port said it wasn't that bad.  However, he has just started working up loads for the barrel, so It will probably get worse.  I will shoot mine this weekend quite a bit if everything goes my way.  Maybe then I can provide more feedback.  I just hope it does as well as my other SSK barrels.
