Redfield scope quesions

What do you all know about Redfield scopes, more particularly the widefield.  I'm looking to get a 2-7 power scope to go on top of my Remington 760 in 300 savage.  The rifle currently has an old fixed 2.5x weaver on it.  It is a great little scope, just a little dark to look thru on opening morning.  I was doing a little time killing here at work surfing optics web pages, and found Redfield's web page.  Not much to it, but the Widefield scope caught my interest.  Any way, what's the current story on this company (apperently they had trouble in the past ?) and their scopes.  Any info would be appreciated.

Whoa, slow down guys, you're flooding me with too much information. :grin:   I just find it hard to believe that at least one of you doesn't know something about these scopes.  Maybe I'll just go and get one and try it out.  And if I break it, I'll give it to my father in law. :)

I do have a one Redfield scope. All my other scopes are Leupolds. I have a Redfield Widefield 3X9 on my 1100 Remington Shotgun (Rifled Slug barrel) I have had great success with it. I do not find it as clear as my Leupolds.  :D

:D BULLMASTIFF, the only Widefield I have any experience with is an old 2-3/4 power. I don't believe it's made anymore. I have it mounted on a Remington model 1100 shotgun. For woods hunting it is faster to get on target than any gun/scope combo I have ever used. I have made some spectacular shots on deer running past me, as close as 25 feet. Wingshooting experience helps here. I can also use it past the gun's max range. The crosshairs only become difficult to see about 1/2 hour past legal hunting hours here.(Don't ask how I know that.) This scope is almost 20 years old, sorry I can't comment on the new ones.
P.S. Redhawk slipped his post in as I was writing this, before I could post it. It seems we share a liking for the same scopes. :lol:

Thanks for the info guys, I was beginning to wonder if my post was the social equivilant of passing wind in church :shock:

Redhawk1- I know you're a Leupold man, and I live in Leupold country, corporate office is here in my home town, heck, my old office was right next door to theirs.  And I will keep on buying Leupold, but their was something about that Redfield Widefield that caught my eye.  I just didn't want to waste my money of something that was junk.  Again, thanks for the info.

BULLMASTIFF, be careful. If you get into Leupolds you may become a Leupold Snob like some of us.  :D  But it's not a bad thing.  :-D  :-D

The old Redfields were great scopes.  The new Redfields are pretty much crapola.  This is somewhat by design.  They are owned by Meade, who also owns Weaver and Simmons.  Weaver is the flagship, followed by Redfield, with Simmons bringing up the bottom.
