How much is my shotgun worth?
« on: March 02, 2005, 09:51:36 AM »
I am wanting to sell my shotgun (to get a rem. 870) and was hopin someone could tell me how much it is worth. Its a Maverick by Mossberg. Model 88. It has a black synthetic stock, 6 shot, 2 3/4 & 3 inch chamber, 28 inch mod. barrel (no choke). It only has 2 little scratches (they look like white little hairs, nothing major) on the recever, and the blue is worn of the rails that conect to the bolt and come out to the pump (don't know what it's called) It has made a good rabit gun and would make someone else one. But I need somthing for turkey  And the mod. barrel is just not tight enough for them

If anyone know the price of this gun could you please let me know what it is.

Also if anyone is interested just give me a price throught a private message.
DEER SEASON IS OVER, BUT THERE IS STILL RABBIT, SQUIRREL AND SPRING GOBBLER.  :biggun:

why not use the modified choke barrel anyway? use hevi-shot or similar loads which usually group one choke tighter than the barrel.

What did you mean by they usually group one choke tighter than the barrel. I don't understand? :?  How will my gun shoot with them?

deerslayer15, you have alot of questions here, but I'll try to boil them down for you. You don't need to sell your Maverick just to hunt turkeys. Just because the barrel is marked modified doesn't mean it will throw a modified pattern with all loads. The "modified" choke you have may or may not be enough for turkeys, but it will pattern tighter with harder shot, such as hevi-shot or good hard turkey loads. Here is what I do with a gun, when I want to see if I can kill turkeys with it. Get some good heavy copper plated turkey loads, from #4-#6 shot. I like # 5 myself. Then get or make some turkey head and neck targets. Put them up, and start shooting. Back up 5 yards and shoot again. Keep backing up and shooting until you can't kill the paper turkey any more. Now you know the Max range for your gun. And if you really need it, you can buy a Mossberg barrel threaded for choke tubes alot cheaper than what it will cost you to trade up.

Generally speaking, anytime you are going to sell a firearm it is worth exactly what the other fellow is willing to pay you, after the bargaining is all done.  No more- no less.
However, if you're going to place in in your gunrack for your friends to see and handle- it's worth about  Two or three thousand- at least!!!!!!!!!
