Cannon shoot on the History Channel
« on: March 03, 2005, 03:32:50 AM »
I'm not in Cannons much but last night on the History channel they had cannon and mortar matches for an hour that held my interest.
At the end they matched the old cannons against the modern artillery at 1000 yards. The old I think had 3 hits and modern with fancy lazar sights 0.

It was "Artillery Games".... very good.  I think that it may be the same one discussed a month or so ago.

Welcome to the board Freddy. I'm not too far away from you in Northern Iowa and have family in the Rochester-Minneapolis area. I am going out to Casper, Wy. this month for their artillery/mortar shoot on the 18th-19th. Mostly to look into a bowling ball mortar for myself in the future. Do you guys in Litchfield have any scheduled shoots this year?

Hey Dictator..... Can you furnish some more information about a cannon shoot up in Casper, Wy that you have indicated will take place in the middle of this month??  I'd sure like to know where it is (exactly) and who to contact about just attending as a spectator.  I'm down in Southern Colorado and would sure like to make the trip up there.  Also, any idea as to just how many shooters will be participating?  Any information you can furnish will be appreciated.  Thanks!  Blaster (Bob in CO) :D

Thanks for the heads up Freddy. if you can provide info or contacts, I would love to to see both plus, it's been over a year since I was last at the Schell brewery in New Ulm.
Blaster Bob-here is the guys name & info. he seems very coordial and when I asked if I could put his shoot info on here, he was all for it. Looks to be fun & I'm going myself. It's June 18-19. I posted a notice on this board on May 18 under-Cannon & mortar shoot/ Casper, WY Cool pics. There is a link there showing a bunch of photos from last year and more on the anouncement for this years at the bottom of the page. The guy to contact is Dan McClenahan--danmcclenahan@hotmail.com. Would like copy of show on history channel
« Reply #10 on: June 08, 2005, 06:17:31 AM »
I would very much like a copy of the mortar shooting that was on the history channel a while back if it shows the big 10 inch  1861 siege mortar shooting. I get the history channel but I missed it and who knows if it will ever come on again? I have DVD and VHS burning/dubbing capability so I can make copies for others if desired.

Dictator:  I just sent you a PM regarding the Casper, WY Cannon/Mortar Shoot being held on the 18th & 19th of this month.  Sure hope some more of the folks on this forum will make a serious attempt to attend this shoot.  It appears that it'll provide a whole lot of noise and smoke.  Anyone??

10 inch mortar in picture?
« Reply #14 on: September 16, 2005, 02:18:45 AM »
Is that a 10 inch mortar in the picture? That's awsome! I'm just guessing they're shooting zinc balls? What might they weigh? What's the powder cost per shot on something that big?

Zinc and cast iron have close to the same densities, hence weight.
