Handi-Rifle in .22 Hornet - Superlight vs. Regular Model
« on: March 03, 2005, 12:43:28 PM »
Anybody here have a Handi-Rifle in .22 hornet?  The ones I'm looking at are the Superlight model (synthetic, blue, 20" barrel, 5.5 lbs) and the "Regular" model (synthetic, blue, 22" barrel, 7.0 lbs).

I'm getting the gun for close-range coyote/bobcat hunting.  I will use the open sights, not a scope.  The Superlight would carry very well.  The 7.0 lb gun would be more steady.

Anybody here have experience with either of these guns?  Are they accurate with factory ammo?

Thanks.

i have the 20 inch barrel on handi rifle i got the barrel off a guy here(thanks john) so i don't know about the rifle but the barrel is good. i've been shooting it a lot the past few weeks and i have really fallen in love with it. my best load so far is all three shots touching (clover leaf) at 75 yards . the load is a 35gr V-max ,r-p case ,12.4gr of h110 and winchester small rifle primer the load is actually .1 over max so don't just jump into it .

as to a factory load i have no clue i have never shot a factory load in it come to think of it i haven't shot a factory load in it.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one.I would go for the superlight model the one I saw the other week had real nice williams adjustable sights on it. It was a youth model,so I don't know if the full size superlights have the same sights or not.It would be easier to carry.

I use a 20" barrel on a regular frame.  I seem to get my best results with a 40 gr V-Max with 13.5 gr Lil'Gun in R-P brass and a CCI 400 primer.  This load clocks at 2750 fps out of the 20" and shoots about 1" at 100 yards.

I bought a 20in superlight barrell here (thanks Shanner) & it shoots the factory 35gr vmax load best less than an inch at 75 yds with a 2.5 scope on it. Rem & win 45 gr factory about an inch & a half. Got som win brass & 35 gr vmax bullets goin to load some up with 13.5 of littlegun hope it does well. I also noticed that they were all factory crimped so I will try a light crimp with a lee crimp die. Good luck I don't think either one will do you wrong

I have the "regular" Handi - synthetic/blue 22". I have not shot it much, maybe 75 rounds, but I like it. It has the factory irons, and at 100 yards I got one group of five shots in less than three inches - four of them were within 1.5" - I must have flinched, I was getting fatigued by that time, and this was the second rifle I was shooting - couldn't duplicate that group, that day with two more five shot relays.

I really wasn't after the weight, it was the barrrel length I wanted.

Good luck! I am sure you will be pleased with either rifle.

here's a trick from the range . call it a : 4 shot group with a called flier. its a fancy way of saying you didn't have the crosshairs where they needed to be when you shot. i hate it when that happens. i was out shooting the hornet yesterday and was about to have my best group yet when i touched the trigger to early (its got a hair trigger). i had a 4 shot group that cut a 40 cal hole and the 5th shot made it a 1 inch group. so i have a 4 shot group of .18 ctc at 75 yards with a called flier. sound better then a 1 inch group right? you see the best way to make yourself a better shooter is to use bigger words :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D .

hey it works for me!!!
