Banded Solids?????
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:20:40 PM »
Has anyone tried the New Banded Solids from Barnes?  Been looking for them but as yet not been able to find any.  Should be a great companion to their TSX line in the heavier big bores.  What is your opinion of them?  Lawdog

I have not tried the Barnes Banded Solids...

However, I have been shooting banded bullets for literally years... both solids and expanding designs.

Frankly, the barnes x "pressure problem" was solved 5 years ago by a specialty bullet manufacturer.

I'm sure that the Barnes Banded Solids will drop pressures and add performance like the other banded designs.

I shot 15 of these last weekend and was disappointed by the lack of ease at chambering on my CZ Lott. Maybe my rifle, but I'll stick with Hornady and Woodleigh for my solids, cheaper too!

Rounds penetrated a 24" (front to back) green red oak and lodged somewhere in a twin tree behind it. I also drilled out a cavity on the end of 5 with a lathe. No difference noted.

Hope this isn't against the rules, but Graf & Sons lists them as being in stock. I was thinking about getting some for my Ruger #3 45-70 to try but Graf does not list the 400 grain .458 that I thought I saw listed somewhere else. Don't remember where. It may fill up too much of my case to get decent velocities out of my powders.

I've got Barnes Solids loaded for my Rem 416 but why is banded different in these bullets? Well I went to Barnes sight and found out what is different than the solids that I have. The difference is the banded bullets has a cut into the shank to reduce pressures and allow higher velocity. :D
