BERGER BULLETS
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:21:04 PM »
I won a couple of hundred 6.5 mm 140 grain Berger bullets last year and will start developing a load with them for the .260 Rem. cartridge soon.

Does anyone use them? Do they do a good job? Laupa scenar bullets have a reputation for having thick jackets and holding together better than most bullets at impact, therefore transferring more momentum to the rams to knock them down.  How do Bergers compare?

As always, any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

Too Soft

I have practiced with Berger bullets but I would not shoot them in a competition that mattered because they are too soft.

You could shoot a reduced load with the Bergers at the CPT but for the rams I would stick with the Lapua Scenars, Sierra Matchings, or Cauterucio bullets.

I use Rem bulk 140 gr bullets in my 6.5 Swede. It seems to knock them down ok. I can't see buying a pemium priced bullet to smack a piece of steel.

the only reason to buy a premium priced bullet is to make sure you actually do smack the piece of steel.

never used bergers, from what I heard it is a great paper puncher,  I would not use them in a match and for sure not on rams, they might do the trick on other animals, I used sierras 142s and after loosing 3 rams in one run (got only 6/10) ( this was at a Nationals and it could be a deciding score) I quit using this silhouette useless type of the bullet, it probably cost me the championships!, I went to the Lapua 139 gr! and never looked back at sierra!
I am shooting 108 and 139 gr Lapuas with a great success.
