Favorite Place to Camp in Your Area

Whats your favorite place to camp in your state.

For me it is a place near a remote mining community near Peters Creek Alaska. After arriving at Peters Creek you take the mining road north for about 20 miles back in.  It is a 4-wheel drive road and leads to a state desginated gold prospecting area. I took five ounces of gold out of there last time.  You have a creek, no officials, Mt. Denali in the back ground and no facilities.

Wonderful!

In the Bay State, I like to go to Mt. Greylock in the Berkshires. Mohawk State Forest near Mt.Todd in Savoy. Beartown State Forest near Lee.

In the Pine Tree State, I like to go to the numerous free campsites on paper company land in the Jackman/Moose River area. Another one is near a place called Spider Lake. It is a bit to get to but you will have solitude.

Chambers Lake, Colorado.  I used to camp there when I was in college at Colorado State 8) .  I proposed to my wife while camped on the shores of that lake in 1985 at 10,000 feet....but don't hold that against the lake  .

I love the Adirondacks!  Mostly camp near Blue Mountain and the surrounding area.  Love the history and everything about it.  Never get tired of the area.  This past summer we had lots of bear sitings.  No real trouble unless you weren't smart about keeping food and trash locked up.

Can't wait to get back to the Big Woods!

As you go through Old Forge heading up Route 28 there is a lefthand turn towards Carter Station.  We had a deer camp back there on 1,500 acres of International Paper land.  It was great until the coyotes killed off all the fawns.  I also camped at Limekilm Lake and Raquette River.  Cranberry Lake is also a great place.  :agree:

Well I didn't mention names as I didn't think anyone would know where I was talking about anyway but Limkiln is one of our favorite spots for bear.  Last summer we went on the nature trail there and when we got back the gentleman across from us came over and told us we had a bear with it's front paws on our propane tanks looking in the window of our camper.     Well in looking at our tanks I found a paw print on the cover and one on the side of the camper.  Of course we leave windows closed and only leave canned goods in there so he probably didn't smell anything good and moved on.  Just past Limkiln is the Moose River Plains which is another favorite area.  We always say we are going to wilderness camp there but haven't done so yet.

Just talking about it I can almost smell the coffee brewing over the fire

I hunted bears on the other side of the lake after going through the gate and down the road, first right.

Almost got killed over there. We set up a canvas tent and the temp. dropped after it started raining.  We had a stove going inside the tent and the rain eventually frooze the tent shut.  Somehow we woke up just in time with splitting headaches and dizzy.  The stove depleated all of the oxygen in the tent and filled it with carbon monixide gas.  We spent the rest of the day recovering. Lucky!

Beautiful area, the south side of the lake has a patch of wild cranberries growning in a swampy area along the eastern edge across from the island.
I still remember the girl I took to the island for a picnic!

Small world!  :)   Do you still get up this way occasionally?  Were you still in the state campground when you were hunting?  Always wondered if you could hunt them there in the fall but never asked.

I found a better place to camp----ALASKA!

We were in the Adirondack State Park but not a part of Limekilm Lake State Part.

One warning though, the Memorial Day weekend.  LL is the first state campground up Rt. 28 and many a time the biker groups would take over the campgrunds.  There was usually a Federal Forest Ranger on station as he has much more authority than the park police.

I used to use a Ruger .22 Supersingel .22 mag as a pillow!

I live in the Catskills and love to camp here.  My favorite spot...anywhere off the trail where no one will find me...

Some friends and I went camping over the summer once.  We were in the woods 'bout an hour walk from the road.  We decided to go swimming one day in a nearby brook.  While we were there, a group of about 4 teenagers in their baggy pants (yes I'm prejudiced against those who wear them around their knees, and yes they did look out of place in the woods) showed up.  It was pretty obvious to my friends that they were looking for a place to smoke pot.  Our bet is that they were from the state campsite down the road a ways.  Since then, I'm especially careful to get DEEP into the woods and well off the trail, wherever I am.

One place we like to camp at is on kenai lake. We throw the raft in at primrose campground and motor up the lake to ship creek. The way this winter is, you might just see my truck parked there in the upcoming weeks.
