A buddy of mine told me that FEDEX now offers ground service to Alaska.  Previously, only expensive second day air.   Anybody else here this?

I'm seeing FEDEX Ground trucks around Fairbanks so I guess they must be here.  On the other hand, when I lived in Salcha, about 30 miles out of Fairbanks FEDEX delivered everything out there through the Post Office.  They used to have a contract carrier, but got rid of them when they signed the deal with the Postal Service.  Even if you ordered 2nd Day it got transferred over to the PO in Anchorage then sent from there by Priority Mail.  It didn't matter that there was a FEDEX station in Fairbanks.  It still got transferred to the PO in Anchorage.  Two day service ended up being 4 or 5, sometimes longer.

In either case, it is way overdue.  Tons of stuff is shipped up here over-land so why doesn't Fedex and the rest throw it on those trucks heded our way?  ESPECIALLY if you are shipping to the lower 48.  So many trucks go back empty.  You'd think they would try and fill them up.   Most times I can wait a few more days for things to get shipped to me.
