Springfield for wife
« on: March 04, 2005, 06:16:31 AM »
my wife fell in love with my dads springfield long slide v-16. She is now determined to own one for carry and I am trying to talk her into a compact carry version what I need to know about is the difference in recoil? is there any difference ? is the difference not noticable? and will she lose much accuracy with the short version versus the long slide ?

Yes, there is a considerable difference in recoil between the long slide and the standard 5" model. There is even more recoil with the Commander size and yet more with the Officer size.

If you reload, there are lighter loads that will work just fine in a Commander sized gun that really tame recoil. You can replace the recoil spring with a lighter one and shoot 185gr bullets with a reduced powder charge. These are great for practice. For defense loads, put the factory recoil spring back in and use a full power load.

At first I thought you wanted to trade... now I see.

I've found that when dealing with women and the guns they like, don't try to fight it. They will like what they want to for the strangest reasons. Just learn to accept it. Don't try to change their oppinion and live with what they like. My wife picked a Charter arms undercover instead of a S&W Mod. 60 because she like the way it looked. Go figger???

Rusty - I was going to ask if it was a trade or a gift.  Looks like ya beat me to it (lololol).

And, you are right about letting them pick their own.  Sam - let her carry that long slide hog leg for a while and she may opt for something shorter and lighter.  Heavy recoil springs will take up some of the recoil on the shorter slides and that may help you wife deal with a shorter slide.  Mikey.

think I might let her deal with that long slide hog leg for a while and when she gets tired of it I just might have me a new toy YES I like the idea already. Maybe I should buy her one I like and give it to her as a gift.

When I saw the topic I was about to send you a picture of my wife and ask for a picture of your Springfield, then I re-read the post and saw that I read it wrong. Sorry.
