338 Remington Ultra Mag. With Serria bullet
« on: March 05, 2005, 12:47:43 PM »
I loaded my shells to 3008 FPS with Serria 250 gr BT and was tring to find my zero at 200 yds and those bullets only hit the target twice they went all over the place. Now I admit it was a little windy but these bullets weighted 250 gr. I expected them to fly pretty streight but maybe I expected to much. What do you think?

Have you shot it at 100 yds, or maybe even 50 yds, Just to see where your at? One of the things that need's to be understood, if you can't shoot a decent group at 50 yds, then you can't at a hundred. And if you can't shoot a decent group at 100 yds, you can't at 200 yds.

If you took a brand new rifle out to sight in and immediately went to 300 yds because that's it's point blank range for the load your using, you'll become very frustrated just trying to hit the target.

It really does sound like you need to back up to 100 yds and then do some load development. I just checked the Nosler manual and the top load listed is just UNDER 3000 fps. Your just over, where did you start load development?

I know I'm over by 8 FPS. I load them this way using RL25 powder. I've had this rifle as soon as they came out. I've shot to 200 yds using different bullets and everything was fine. I don't know if SERRIA bullets can go this fast but I seen them loaded faster on different forms. Max load for the 338 RUM is 3050 FPS. Not with Nosler load manual.
