Hi .
I recently acquired a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm,but i noticed that every now and then, the hammer releases when releasing the slide of my pistol.I primed a case and tried it again and after about the 15 time the hammer ingnited the primer.Perhaps the firing pin safety has been removed or something else is wrong. I hope some of you fellas can help me,since i don't want to carry an unsafe gun around.

Sounds to me like you've got at least 2 things going wrong: the hammer releasing and the firing pin moving (although, to tell you the truth, I can't remember if the Delta has the firing pin block). Neither of these things should happen unless the trigger is pulled. So it's possible you've got a sticky trigger mechanism ... which could be because it's dirty, or sticking where it goes around the magazine, or the return spring is not working right (although if that's the case it should fail more frequently). In any case, DO check it out. It ain't right and it ain't safe.

Thank's for the reply.I don't think that the gun or more specifically the trigger is dirty,since i keep my pistols in tip-top shape.The funny thing, though is that the hammer never releases while firing it,and one would believe you would have an unwanted discharge,since there is more force emanating from the slide during firing than by just releasing the hammer once.Another thing i just found out is that i can prevent the hammer from releasing by squeezing the trigger while releasing the slide.I do know,that that is not a safe practice and be assured,i'll get it checked out by a gunsmith.

The Delta Elite is a series 80 pistol. It does indeed have a friing pin safety.
Take your gun to a good 1911 smith before you shoot it again! When the hammer follows the slide you have a sear/hammer notch problem. The gun is not safe untill this is repaired.
Savage
