Contender or G2
« on: March 06, 2005, 05:05:27 PM »
I have an encore rifle, but have been considering getting a contender or G2.  I haven't shot the an encore in pistol configuration, but would imagine that the lighter weight of the contender or G2 to be preferable as far as carrying, etc. (at least to my thinking).

For those who have experience with both the contender and G2, if you were getting one as a first T/C pistol, which one would you prefer to purchase and why?

If this has already been discussed (and I'm sure it probably has), I did not find much info about this topic from searching previous threads.  I'm new to the forum and would like some information to help me with the upcoming purchase.  Thanks.

I have some of each.  I think in most ways the G-2 is a much more refined gun than the original.  It opens more easily and reliably, and while the triggler lacks the adjustment ability of the original mine have been fine out fo the box (and I am fussy about triggers).  I keep an original for heavier recoiling barrels because I like my Pachmeyer grips for hanging on.  When (if) they become available then the old timer is going.

Those who dislike the G-2 have good reasons like preferring the scroll engraving on the side of the original, liking the stainless steel frame (me to!), liking being able to dry fire without cocking the hammer, liking the adjustability of the trigger, etc.

I like both alot, but give my personal edge to the G-2. I think the improvements are well thought out and do work.  Good luck with your decision.
