To Wammy or not?

I'm copying a snare support that Leo Olson made. It's 16" of rod with #11 wire welded on and a "North Dakota" antispin on the bottom.I usually just bend the wire to make my cable support but John Graham sent me some snares with wammies on.I just don't like them. It's easier and faster for me to use the bend in the end of the wire.
Have any of you snaremen got use to or like wammies?

Coy,I don't put wammys on the snares I make for customers, but most of them want the plastic tubing put on .So now almost all I make have the plastic support collar.

I have tubing on all my snares.  The only time I use the wire bend is when I've forgotten the tubing.  Now, there are varieties of tubing just like pipe...dia. and thin or thick wall.  The thick wall stuff seems to be the best and does not require any fussing.  If you get the right Tygon@ tubing you will be happy.  Check with some gals in the E.R. or blood services and get you some to try...heck a Montana trapper like you should be able to fend off a few blood born diseases no problem :-D

One thing to remember if using tubing for whammys and you have temps below  32 and below 0 make sure you use a compatible tubing that doesnt harden up and stays relatively soft  so you can get yr  support wire in especially if using nbr 9 wire..

VWR scientific or Fisher Scientific carry anything you need.  I'll have to go out and see if I can get the numbers off some tubing.  The Thick wall in the correct diameter works well on everything from 11 gage single stand too 16 ga tie wire doubled.  If I forget to get the specs get after me.  I never have nor would I intentionally use 9 ga wire for supports ...way over kill in my way of thinking. But than that old RdFx is known for over killing most things LMAO.
