Cleaning Rods

Not sure where to put this. I need a new cleaning rod for .17 caliber. I have used Dewey in the past and was wondering if anyone has used bore tech or tipton. Midway has the tipton on sale but they want about $10 more for shipping and a special handling fee. I can buy the bore tech locally for around $33, and I can get the dewey for around $25 or so.

...........I have and use a Bore tech and so far it is great...the handle is very secure in the hand and the bearings let the rod turn so easy and follow the twist in the bore......BUT I haven't seen or used a 17cal version and sometimes the small rods don't turn out as well as the normal 22/30cal.........my old 17rod was a steel rod and I can't remember what brand it was.....and with the 17 Rem center fire you needed the rod often.........hth..good luck and good shooting!!!

I own a Dewey 17 caliber cleaning rod and it works fine. I know Bore Tech makes a fine product and I wouldn’t be afraid of giving them a try if the rod I own now gets bent or broken. I don’t know anything about the Tipton rods.

I have two Tipton carbon fiber rods, replacing two Pro Shot stainless steel rods.

I can't say enough about the Tiptons.  They do their job, and are able to handle "abuse" (i.e. a hammer to the end when a bullet is jammed in the throat) without problem.

I would pay the price and freight again if I needed one in .17 cal.

I have several BoreTech rods, and will not buy more.....They are in the corner of my loading room.  Coating material comes off, and customer service is lacking.  They do have a nice handle.

I'm using Dewey, and some custom rods, now.

Don't know much about the carbon fiber rods, but heard they flex a lot.

Just make sure you are using a good bore guide of the correct size, and watch that rod exiting the muzzle---that's when most damage occurs.
