Hate missing a deal
« on: March 07, 2005, 10:39:08 AM »
I saw in a local free paper that comes out once a week a deal that has just been killing me.  It comes out on Tuesday's and I went to grab one but because of the snow storm it was late.  I didn't get one until Friday and then it was too late.  Someone sold...

TC Contender Frame
44 mag barrel
222 Barrel
357 Herret barrel
410 barrel
Also included were
Scopes
Case
Ammo
Reloading dies

all for $600

I watch all the time.  I miss one paper and I really missed it!  Just hate missing a deal like that.

if it makes you feel any better , let me tell you about "the one that got away" from me..

Some years back, naturally at a time when i shouldnt have been buying anything anyway, i saw an ad in the local paper "Browning black duck shotgun". Well, i do like some models of Brownings, but have never been an avid collector, and it didnt ring a bell as to what they were talking about. I assumed it to be just another shotgun, and even way back then i had the contender bug bad, so i ignored it.

A couple of weeks later i am in a gunshop, and the guys who i know well were talking about someone who came in with a "black duck shotgun" so i ask them about it... Turns out this was a Black Duck Superposed over & under that is quite rare & valuable, the felow that bought it sold it to a Browning collector for about $6000...

no matter how hard you watch the ads, sooner or later something slips by...
 :(

I know how you feel.  A guy that I work with found a deal in the paper.  The seller had a frame, three barrels, two scopes, brass. and two sets of reloading dies for sale for 550.00.  I told him he should buy just to resell.  He called the seller two weeks later and the stuff hadn't been sold.  He bought it all for 450.00.  What a deal.  An easy open frame, a 22 hornet, 222 remington, and a 7 TCU all in good shape.  Too bad I had no money.....

Once in a while you can get lucky.  Went to a sillywet match on Saturday.  Gentleman there wanting to get rid of a few old silhouette guns.  How much?  Contenders $225.  How much for the barrels?  That is with a barrel.  What?  Pick a barrel to go with the frame.  OK!!  Buddy of mine picked a frame as he was looking for one.  I picked up a 10" 357 Herrett and split the cost.  $112.50 each.  Not bad?  Gets better.  He threw in dies, brass, and bullets.....for $10 more.  WoW.   You bet.....then, he had a forlorn looking 22LR octagon barrel with the two piece lugs.  How much for the barrel.....?  Well....how about $50?  Sold!!  My share $172.50 for both barrels, dies, brass, bullets, etc.    Saw another frame with 357 max barrel go for $225.00.   Don't know how much the rest was going for.  I was too busy searching in my truck for more spare change and hide out $$s.

Keep searching.....You will find yours!!
