Why does the stock fit that way?
« on: March 07, 2005, 02:18:04 PM »
Hey gang,

I was at my dad's this weekend showing him my new BC, and we were looking at his Handi-Rifles too, and we both looked a each other, then at the stock where it meets the action. Neither one of us knows why they make the stock oversize there, does anyone know why they do it? It is the same on every H&R we have.

H&R does their own stocks and they sell at a very good price probably partly because they don't spend a lot of time custom making each stock.  Since they're made of somewhat inexpensive wood, they probably choose to make the stock somewhat robust for strength. Get the sandpaper out, they can be customized to your satisfaction, take a look at Fred M's .257 Roberts.

Quick,

That is one sweet rifle he did. IF I can get another straight grip stock for my BC I might fit it, but the color of the wood and the grain are very nice, I would just hate to cut it down and mess up the checkering they put on it.
