C. Sharps High Wall Recommendation
« on: March 08, 2005, 06:38:21 PM »
I found a near meant C. Sharps 1885 in what I think is 40-65.  Its marked 40 2 1/10 on the barrel.  I would have loved it to be a 40-70 straight wall.  Its has no sights so I can pick my own.  The rifle has a 28" full octagon barrel and great case hardened receiver.  What do you think  good offer for this would be?  I am a 45-70 shooter for a good number of years, will I like the 40-65 or should I build a 40-70?  Thanks.

I'm just a rookie at this stuff, but I think .40x 2 1/10 is AKA .40/70 BN. This BPCR desination stuff gets a bit confusing!

I believe the 40-70 sharps BN is a 2 1/4 inch case.  Look in the chamber, you will see if it is a necked or straight wall case.  I would almost bet my last chocolate chip cookie that it is a 40-65.

The .40 2/10 is the Winchester .40-65. I have a few rifles in this caliber. Actually mine are .40-60 Marlin, which is also the same cartridge. They are really fun calibers, with less recoil than the .45-70, and if in a gun like the C Sharps, they should be very accurate!

C. Sharps highwalls start at around $1,500 without sights, use Badger barrels, and are well made. The one you are looking at is most likely a 40-65 which is an excellent target and hunting round. Rbump
