New Government Report Shows Terror Suspects are Buying Firearms; National Security at Risk Considering .50 Caliber Sniper Rifles, Powerful Enough to Shoot Down Airplanes During Landing or Takeoff, Are Easy for Terrorists to Acquire

Contact: Bryan Miller of Freedom States Alliance, 856-371-3038

CHICAGO, March 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that dozens of terror suspects on federal watch lists were allowed to purchase firearms legally in the United States. The report demonstrates serious vulnerabilities in U.S. National Security considering the availability of deadly weapons such as .50 caliber sniper rifles that are so powerful that they can shoot down civilian airplanes during takeoff or landing from over a mile away. Although the .50 caliber sniper rifle was designed as a battlefield rifle to attack and destroy parked or landing aircraft, fuel and chemical tanks, personnel carriers, and to be used for assassination, the .50 caliber sniper rifle is easier to get than a handgun.

"Now that we know that terrorists are purchasing firearms right here in the United States, then you can bet they either already have or soon will get their hands on a .50 caliber sniper rifle, which will make it easy to commit a horrific act of terrorism," said Bryan Miller, a spokesperson from the Freedom States Alliance. The Freedom States Alliance has launched a new website called http://www.50caliberterror.com in order to prevent .50 caliber sniper rifles from being used in a terrorist attack and to urge lawmakers to restrict these deadly weapons for use by the military and law enforcement only.

"We didn't 'connect the dots' before the last terrorist attack and now the threat is staring right at us. If we know that terrorists are buying guns right here in the U.S., then why wouldn't they get their hands on the most powerful weapon available that could attack a civilian airliner or a chemical plant," asked Miller.

The new GAO report should be a four alarm warning to Congress and Homeland Security officials to take urgent action to address the grave threat of terrorists using a .50 caliber sniper rifle in an attack. It was because of the terrorist threat of .50 caliber sniper rifles that prompted Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pass legislation in California to restrict the .50 caliber rifle to military and law enforcement officials only.

*Note 2:  The wheels are turning.  This phrase "over a mile away" keeps coming up.  For example:

Pentagon gun will inflict pain from mile away

By Andrew Buncombe in Washington
05 March 2005

The Pentagon is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop a new "energy pulse" weapon that can deliver a jolt of excruciating pain from more than a mile away. Researchers have expressed outrage that work used to control pain is now being used to develop such a weapon.

*Note 3:  Since no .50 caliber firearm has ever been used in a domestic crime, why is there all of a sudden such a noise to get these firearms off the market and unavailable to civilians?  Could it be that the government just doesn't want The People to be able to defend themselves from threats with similar range capability?  Good for me, but not for thee?
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.
