refinish remington 700 "satin" stock
« on: March 09, 2005, 03:37:47 PM »
Does anyone know what Remington puts on a Satin finish wood stock?  I got a freebie and was thinking about restaining it.  Would it have to be sanded or could it be stripped evenly and stained?  I sanded and stained an NEF stock but it was a pretty hard laminate and it didn't have as much inletting as the Remington.  Any input would be appreciated.

It's the same RKW poly finish but in a satin version. There are some European models that use what looks to be a Danish oil finish that's in the wood not on it.  The RKW finishes can be heated and scraped off easily. A light sanding with 220 or even finer grit paper, stain(if you wish) and finish away..  I've done literally hundreds, they're quite easy..
