.45 ACP Rhineland/Enfield
« on: March 09, 2005, 06:04:05 PM »
Does anybody have a Rhineland/Enfield (also in large & small ring Mauser) .45 ACP Conversion yet (as seen in April Guns Magazine)? I have a small ring Mauser (1893 Spainish) with a totally bubbaed stock & barrel (cut to 18" with a dull hacksaw with epoxyed on front sight!!!). The action is in good condition w/o scope mount holes. I think it is a good candidate for this conversion and at $135 + S&H, reasonable enough. (BTW I have a 1911 clone on layaway and this may be a good companion for it). The website for the conversion is rhinelandarms.com .

Don't have a Rhineland .45 conversion, yet.
About 15 years ago,I took a Lowe 1888 Commision Mauser and adapted a Thompson sub gun(16") barrel to it. I modified a Weaver rail to mount a 2.5X7 Intermediate Eye Relief scope. With a Speer 185gr "Flying Ashtray", Win. larg magnum pistol primer and Unique powder(won't say how much, look under .45 ACP Contender loads), it shoots 1" at 50 yds. Does HORRIBLE things to a Coyote, jackrabbit or stock tank turtle. I haven't shot anything bigger yet, don't like deer and not going to shoot one just to see what it does. It's only a single shot as I haven't figured out how to adapt a magazine to it. The 1888 is a totally diferent design than the '98, so the Rhineland adapter won't work. I visit the Rhineland web site frequently and read their comments. They say the Enfield feeds more reliably than the Mausers, but a little discreet Dremel work cured that problem in my rifle, and the Enfield is just BUTT UGLY!!!! ,IMHO. Anyway, I plan to get a Rhineland  Mauser conversion and buy a ragged out Mauser action to put it on so I can have a mag fed , bolt action .45ACP carbine. I just wish they would make it in a double stack configuration. BTW, I'm a Dallas boy, Remember the Alamo!

kjeff - Update on Rhineland conversions.
I know some projects go easier than others and some people just seem to be snake bit, but you would be well advise to go to surplusrifles.com and read their article on doing a Rhineland/Enfield conversion.

I just visited a shop today to compare my SIG P220 mags to 1911 mags; I think I can do this conversion. I may even get a little goofy and try to adapt a NEF Survivor butstock to it. There is an article in the Shotgun News, but they have been advertising there longer than i have noticed anywhere else, Coffield does make it sound easy and doen't talk about removing the old barrel. I am not concerned about sights, I figured on using an AO scout mount and a cheap pistol scope or dot sight.
