using 284 brass for 7.5x55 question?
« on: March 09, 2005, 07:05:15 PM »
Just a simple question I know all you have to do is run the 284 brass through a 7.5x55 die OK so far so good. After do you have to trim to make it the right length? Or does altering the shoulder shorten the neck? Jim

Why not save yourself a lot of trouble and by the 7.55X55 brass from Graf & Son?

I got mine from Ammolab on Ebay.  Ended up getting 50 rounds NEW-unfired for $21!

Here you go:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31824&item=7139808392&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

As soon as this auction ends, he'll put more on.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

Val because Grafs is out and not sure when they will get more in stock. Thanks Hardertr, I will check it out but cannot get any brass or dies until next month as this month my available funds were to buy the rifle. Jim

The 7.5x55 is the cartridge fired in Swiss rifles such as the K-31. Just under a 30-06 in ballistics. It used a standard .308 (30 caliber) bullet.

No, I think?

IIRC, the 284 case is a tad (.010-.015") shorter than the 7.5x55 Swiss, but my memory ain't what it use to be.

make a test round before loading all your .284 brass.  Overall length was not a problem for me but for my rifle the brass had to be full length resized, with the bottom of the die meeting the shellholder forcibly.   Not sure if the base diameter was just a bit too large or if the shoulder had to be set back, but without doing that step the case would chamber but the bolt was just enough out to prevent the firing pin from falling.
