Hi, I have a 20 gauge youth model H&R Topper Jr. How much less kick does a .410 have than a 20 gauge single shot shotgun? Also, how do you feel about the somewhat newly developed .410 triple Ought buckshot compared to double ought? Also, what does one hunt with a .410? Thanks.

The only .410 I own is a SA M6. The 000 buck loads in it won't keep all 3 balls on an IPSC (?) target at 25m, got a bit of kick to it probably because it weighs <4 lbs. YMMV

I think that the .410 makes a fine jack rabbit gun especially with larger shot sizes (#6 or #4). Trap loads with #8 or #9 are great snakes too.

I'm hoping to take my .410 out for squirrel this Sept. This is typically a "walk up" situation......just hiking around encountering squirrels at short range til your legs fall off......that's after sitting stationary under a tree from before dawn, with the 22lr Sportster.....
