:roll: My gunsmith told me he heard someone was bringing out a bolt action rifle in .300 H&H. A friend has a pre 64 Mod 70 in it and it is one sweet shooting rifle with a lot less kick than my .300 Wby. Has anyone heard about a .300 H&H chambering? I'd love to have one.

I heard the same thing and I wish somebody would. Accurate but with a few problems. Like your buddy I have a pre 674 M70 in .300 H&H and it is sweet. Case stretching is a problem meaning for trimming and the cases don't last as long. The reason the Weatherby recoils more is it's traveling over 200 fps. faster than the H&H. It was rumored that Remington was going to bring out a .300 in their classic series. They did the .300 Savage. The only two companies that I know that chamber for this fine old cartridge is Holland & Holland and Rigby. Both of which costs more than a nice safari does. Most likely the cheapest way to getting a H&H is to find a suitable rifle and rebarrel. If you go this way remember the H&H likes a barrel at least 24" with 26" working best. Lawdog

I've been thinkin about that Lawdog. There are many used Rem 700 BDL 7mm Mags I see for around $350. How much does a rebarreling job cost?

I thought that Remington did come out with the 300HH in their classic. If not there are REM 721 or 722's out there in 300HH. Check the internet aution sites like auctionarms or gunbroker you should be able to find one. I also have a Pre64 Model 70 and would not trade for anything. The long tapered shoulder reduces pressures which also results in less felt recoil.

I don't know of anyone that is currently producing a 300 H&H except for some of the British houses. Could your gunsmith have meant to say 400 H&H Mag? It's a new offering from Holland and Holland, but word is that it isn't going to be propriatary, and some drawings and specs have already been released. Boy, it would sure be a neat round to have in the M77 Africa model or a No.1 H.
